DuesPe vs Tally or Zoho Books: do you need both?

Last reviewed

Short answer: they do different jobs. Accounting software such as Tally or Zoho Books records your firm's transactions and books. DuesPe is not accounting software; it tracks what each client owes you for your services, records the payments you receive and helps you remind clients. Many practices use an accounting tool for books and a simpler tool for client fee follow-up.

Accounting tools can record your sales invoices and receipts, but they are built around ledgers, not around a simple per-client "who owes me and did I remind them" view. DuesPe is built around that view. Check your own accounting software's receivables features before deciding; some practices find them enough.

Using them together

  1. Keep your books in your accounting software exactly as you do now.
  2. Record each client's fee and payments in DuesPe for day-to-day follow-up.
  3. Your accountant or you enter the same receipts in the books as usual. There is no automatic sync today, so this is double entry for the payments you choose to track in both.

When you can skip DuesPe

If you have a small, stable client list, your accounting software already shows who has not paid, and you rarely chase, you may not need it. The spreadsheet comparison has a short checklist that applies to any tool.

What DuesPe does not do (today)

  • It does not file GST or income-tax returns, and does not replace your filing portal or compliance software.
  • It is not accounting software. Keep your books in Tally, Zoho Books or whatever you use now; DuesPe handles client fees, dues and follow-ups.
  • Invoices do not yet carry a GST tax breakup.
  • It does not store client documents.
  • There is no bulk import from a spreadsheet yet, and no integration with Tally.

Frequently asked questions

Is DuesPe a replacement for Tally or Zoho Books?

No. DuesPe is not accounting software and does not keep a general ledger. Keep your books in the accounting software you use. DuesPe handles the client-facing side of your practice: what each client owes you, payments received and reminders.

Do I need both accounting software and a fee tracker?

Not always. If you have a few clients and already track fees reliably in your accounting software, you may not. If you chase fees across many clients, on different cycles, and keep falling behind, a dedicated fee tracker helps with the follow-up side.

Does DuesPe connect to Tally?

No. There is no integration with Tally or other accounting software today, so payments are recorded in DuesPe separately.
